Fraser Island's abundant pristine freshwater lakes and crystal clear creeks are great spots to view flora and fauna. Scenic 4WD circuits and walking tracks, including sections of the Fraser Island Great Walk, take in some of the largest of the lakes. The Hideaway Station Hotel hosts a trip or two to Fraser Island each year, usually at least one "men's" trip.

Hervey Bay

Whale Watching Capital of Australia and Gateway to Fraser Island. Bordered by 40km of pristine beaches, Hervey Bay is one of Queensland's best natural holiday destinations, offering convenient access to two World Heritage-listed areas, Fraser Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The Bay has gained international recognition as one of the best locations to view the majestic humpback whales as they make their yearly migration south, through the region's calm waters, from late July to early November. The fishing options are endless... the estuary, beach, jetty, reef and game fishing is regarded world-class. Just under an hour's drive from Tiaro, Hervey Bay is less than 60km away.
